Ok here it is again and that’s my point - IT NEVER ENDS. Again at the Deli Counter… this time at Von's

I’m shopping for my 70 year old mother, who is on a limited budget and loves her Deli Roast Beef. I stood in front of the case and pointed to the Roast Beef that was $6.49 per pound.

I said, “I would like one pound of this roast beef.” I pointed to the meat in the case that I wanted. He proceeded to give me the pre-cut Roast Beef to the right of what I originally asked for. That meat was $3.00 more than what I wanted. So, I asked again for my original cut and he informed me that this cut was pre-sliced, but the meat I requested was only sold as a bulk item. I laughed, thinking that he was joking. He had to be either lazy or joking – or probably both. I obviously didn’t need 10 lbs. and ala ka zam – he sliced the 2 pounds I needed! All the meat in the counter had to be the same, and as a deli clerk he should be able to slice anything in the deli and if my mother was in the market, she would’ve been ripped off! It only took two minutes to slice the beef and (finally) give me what I wanted from the Deli Counter. Correct me if I’m wrong… Isn’t that what the deli counter is for? Anything in the counter is there for the customer to pick, right? He tried to tell me that the huge bulks of meat and cheese were “sold as is.”

Needless to say, I had a word with his manager – they said he was new and they assured me they would speak with him.

I have been shopping at Von’s for 20 years. Point being, I saved $3.00 a pound and that you should always CHECK EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING!!
